Allergens & Product Care Policy

At Crust & Cloud, your safety and the quality of your bakes are our highest priorities. As a home-based artisan bakery, we operate under strict UK food safety standards (5-Star Hygiene Rated) to ensure every treat is as safe as it is delicious.

1. Allergen Information
Our kitchen handles a wide variety of ingredients. While we follow rigorous cleaning and segregation processes, we operate in a small environment where all 14 major allergens are present.

The 14 Major Allergens
By law, we declare if our products contain any of the following: Cereals containing gluten (wheat, rye, barley, oats), Crustaceans, Eggs, Fish, Peanuts, Soybeans, Milk, Nuts (almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, cashews, pecans, brazils, pistachios, macadamias), Celery, Mustard, Sesame, Sulphur dioxide/sulphites, Lupin, and Molluscs.
Cross-Contamination Warning

Important: Because our bakes are made in a domestic kitchen, we cannot guarantee that any product is 100% free from traces of allergens, even if they are not listed as an ingredient.

  • Nut/Peanut Allergy: We frequently use nuts and peanuts in our kitchen. We advise those with severe life-threatening allergies to exercise caution.

  • Gluten-Friendly: Our "Gluten-Friendly" range is made with non-gluten ingredients. However, as flour is present in our kitchen, these items are not suitable for Coeliacs or those with severe gluten intolerances.

How to Find Specific Allergen Info

  • Online: Individual product pages list all "Contains" allergens in bold.

  • On Packaging: In accordance with Natasha’s Law, all items pre-packaged for direct sale (PPDS) or delivery will carry a full ingredients label with allergens clearly highlighted in BOLD.

  • Custom Orders: For bespoke cakes, a full allergen report is provided upon collection.
     

2. Product Care & Storage
Our bakes are made with fresh, premium ingredients and no artificial preservatives. To enjoy them at their best, please follow these guidelines:

Cakes & Cupcakes

  • Transport: When collecting from Haywards Heath (RH16), please keep cakes on a flat surface (the footwell of your car is often safer than a seat). Keep the car cool and drive carefully!

  • Temperature: Store in a cool, dry place. Do not refrigerate sponge cakes unless they contain fresh cream or the weather is extremely hot, as the fridge can dry out the sponge.

  • Serving: For the best flavor and texture, always enjoy at room temperature. If your cake has been chilled, remove it from the fridge 1–2 hours before serving.
     

Brownies & Sweet Treats

  • Storage: Keep in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days, or in the fridge for up to 10 days if you prefer a fudgy, cold texture.

  • Freezing: Brownies freeze beautifully! Wrap them tightly in cling film and foil; they will last for up to 3 months. Thaw at room temperature.
     

Tarts & Cheesecakes

  • Refrigeration: These products must be kept refrigerated until 15–30 minutes before serving.

  • Shelf Life: Best enjoyed within 2–3 days of collection.
     

3. Customer (your) Responsibility
It is the customer's responsibility to:

  1. Disclose Allergies: Inform us of any severe allergies at the time of ordering.

  2. Read Labels: Check the physical labels provided on the packaging before consumption.

  3. Follow Care Instructions: Crust & Cloud cannot be held liable for products that have deteriorated due to incorrect storage or handling after collection/delivery.
